Watching the pace and flow of New York City from above is amazing. The constant stream of yellow taxis lining the avenues, the waves of pedestrians hurriedly crossing with the change of traffic signals, little figures disappearing into and emerging from the subway stations, the chorus of honking horns and sirens. It’s all so rhythmic and strangely soothing to watch.

Lorsque le designer industriel américain Russel Wright et son épouse, Mary, ont acheté 75 hectares de terrains abruptes au-dessus de la rivière Hudson à Garrison, New York, en 1942, ils savaient peu, sinon rien, sur le jardinage et l’horticulture. Mais au cours des 30 années suivantes, Wright a transformé la région, endommagée par un siècle d’exploitation forestière et minières, en l’un des exemples les plus extraordinaires de l’aménagement paysager de tous les temps. «La plus grande réalisation de Wright était le paysage», explique Jean-Paul Maitinsky, directeur général du site depuis 2011. « Il est passé d’un monde de la production industrielle de conception et de contrôle pour un environnement dynamique qu’il a voulu transformer et il l’a libéré. »

Nommé Manitoga par Wright par le mot algonquin signifiant «lieu de grand esprit», sa propriété se composait d’une maison moderne et un studio au milieu de la végétation existante.

Installation florale pour le lancement du magazine Wilder Quarterly par fox fodder farm.

Fox Fodder Farm is a floral and garden design studio based in Brooklyn, New York. We like flowers. We like making arrangements. We like gardening. We love ice cream.

FFF was born in Rockland, Delaware where there are some chickens. And there are foxes. And the foxes are always eating the chickens. The name is appropriate.

« Located on the uplands of pier two, the ‘brooklyn bridge park pop-up pool’ is the result of a collaboration between american firms spacesmith and davis brody bond. planned as a temporary structure only to remain five years, the colorful nature of the project uses as little additional construction as possible, re-utilizing the concrete foundations left from previously demolished buildings. The 50-foot by 30-foot pool was raised to avoid unnecessary excavation while a beach of 2,500 square feet of sand lends to a fun environment to contrast with the city background. a wall of vividly painted and decorated repurposed shipping containers provide ample storage space as well as showers, restrooms, concessions and lockers, and define a concrete plaza replete with picnic tables, umbrellas and stairs while buffering the nearby traffic noise. »
